Gluten Free French Toast
Looking for a delicious weekend breakfast, then look no further. French toast is not an everyday kind of breakfast, well at least not for me. All though it is pretty simple to make and only requires three main ingredients to create. I still reserve it for the days when I have more time in the morning. This way I can really enjoy the whole process from start to finish.
What Type of Gluten Free Bread to Use
Choose you favourite gluten free bread. Mine is Warburtons gluten free artisan tiger bloomer. What I love about it is how it comes as an unsliced loaf. Meaning you can get to cut nice thick slices, perfect for making French toast. Alternatively you could use a gluten free fruit loaf or just a simple sliced white bread. Some fun ideas would be a tea cake, hot cross bun or even a bagel.
Try and pick a bread that doesn’t fall apart when handled to much. Yes, I know that can be a big ask for gluten free bread. This way I prefer a loaf I can slice myself. By making the slices thicker they are less likely to fall apart. A good tip for slicing a loaf is to turn it over so the top is face down. Then slice in to it. I find it doesn’t squash the bread as much this way.
How to Make French Toast
Making French toast is pretty simple, just handle the bread carefully.
Heat a non stick frying pan on a medium heat.
Crack two medium eggs in a shallow dish make sure your bread can fit into the dish. Add in 65ml of non dairy milk and the cinnamon of your using it. Whisk everything together and until combined.
Cut 3 thick slices of your gluten free bread. Dunk them into the egg mixture one at a time. Let it sit in the middle for about 20-30 seconds to soak up the egg mixture. Then flip it over carefully and let the other side soak up the egg mixture too. Remove the slices and add it straight to the non stick frying pan.
Cook the French toast on each side for 3-4 minutes. Until they have gone a nice golden brown colour.
Remove from pan once done and serve immediately. Top them with anything you like or keep them plain it’s up to you. I topped mine with a drizzle of chocolate sauce and sliced strawberries.
