Are you a granola lover, I know I am. This is the third granola recipe up on the blog check out the other two here and here.

This date sweetened granola is the perfect base recipe to add whatever mix-ins you fancy. Get creative and try out new combinations each time. I like to switch the spices up with the seasons or like I did with this one and create a gingerbread spiced favourite. Its 7 months into the year and am missing all the Christmas treats.

Yes, Christmas is my favourite of all the seasons. I love all the decorations and of course the food. Thanks to this granola I can still enjoy some festive food. That’s the best thing about making your own food. You don’t have to wait and only eat certain foods at certain times of the year.

Anyway, back to this date sweetened granola. The mix-ins I used this time round was buckwheat puffs and dried cranberries. I kept it simple and only used two mix-ins but you can add as many or as little as you like. Some great ones are chopped nuts, hemp seeds, dried fruit, chocolate chips, shredded coconut and seeds.

Shooting the photos for this date sweetened granola was a little different as i had a little helper/hand model. I was babysitting my 18 month old niece at the time. Actually i was pretty impressed with how well she done, none of the food was eaten and hardly any of it ended up on the floor either. I was shooting several recipes that day so keep your eyes peeled to spot which one’s she helped with.

This date sweetened granola is the easiest version i have made so far. Especially if you make a batch of the date paste at a time like i did here. The finished texture of the granola is crispy and crunchy with some clusters. Which i think its a great balance between the more crumbly kind and the kind with only big cluster in it.
