3 Easy Healthy Dips (GF, VG, OF, low fodmap)

Here’s 3 easy healthy dips: guacamole, salsa, baba ganoush that are better for you and cheaper to make than store brought kinds. They are vegan, gluten free, oil free and contain no onion or garlic.

Making your own dips are easier and healthier than buying the store brought kinds as many contain added oils, sugar and food addictive’s such as stabilisers, emulsifiers, gelling agents and thickeners.

Let’s start with salsa, ever since finding out I can’t eat onion or garlic finding dips, spreads and sauces has become difficult to say the least. Salsa was the first dip I made and couldn’t believe how easy and quick it was. I would definitely say salsa is the perfect first dip to try out, it’s pretty much fool proof.

You only need 7 ingredients and 3 of them are seasonings, a bowl, a knife and a spoon.

The trick to making this so simple is a can of chopped tomatoes preferably ones that come with mixed herbs already added. If not, them simply add a tablespoon of dried mixed herbs to them yourself. 6 other ingredients are cherry tomatoes for added texture, green pepper or colour of your choice, cumin, lemon/lime juice, salt and black pepper.

Dice your green pepper and combine it with all the other ingredients in a bowl. Give it a good mix and your all done. If you don’t like chunky salsa you can blitz it in a blender or food processor for 10-20 seconds to create a smooth dip. It really is that simple and equally as delicious as the store brought kind you won’t miss the onion or garlic one bit.

Next up the guacamole, this one again is super simple requires 7 ingredients, a bowl, fork and a knife.

Add one avocado to a bowl and mash it with the fork then dice the tomatoes and chop the coriander. Add them both to the bowl with the avocado and mix. Next add the lemon/lime juice, salt, pepper and cayenne pepper if you like it spicy. Adjust the seasoning to your own taste. This is best eaten straight away as the avocado will start to turn brown. It will keep in the fridge for 2-3 days it just won’t look as nice.

Last but not least is the baba ganoush, this has become my new favourite dip to make it takes longer than the first two as you have to bake the aubergine first but it’s still very easy and definitely worth the extra time.

For this dip I used Caitlin shoemakers @frommybowl recipe, you can go check her blog out for the full recipe. The ingredients are aubergine, lemon juice, tahini, smoked paprika and cayenne pepper. I love Caitlin’s blog all her recipes are vegan super easy and delicious. She also has a YouTube channel which is one of my favourites to watch.
